THERMAL · EXTREME PERFORMANCE
Aspen Aerogel Insulation
The world’s thinnest, lightest and most thermally efficient flexible insulation. Aerogel blankets deliver outstanding performance in confined spaces and extreme temperature environments where conventional insulation simply cannot compete.
WHAT IS AEROGEL?
The lowest thermal conductivity of any flexible insulation material
Aerogel is a synthetic porous material derived from silica gel in which the liquid component has been replaced with gas. The result is an ultra-low density solid with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.015 W/mK — three to five times better than conventional insulation materials at equivalent thickness. Aspen Aerogels is the global leader in aerogel blanket technology, and Aerothane is your South African supply partner for Pyrogel and Cryogel products.
HOT SERVICE · UP TO 650°C
Pyrogel
Pyrogel is a high-performance aerogel blanket engineered for hot service applications up to 650°C. It offers the lowest thermal conductivity of any flexible insulation material on the market, delivering superior thermal protection at a fraction of the thickness required by conventional products.
In applications where space is limited, weight is critical, or conventional insulation would need multiple layers, Pyrogel allows a single-layer solution that outperforms the alternative. Ideal for process piping, industrial equipment and offshore installations where dimensional constraints are tight.
Key features
- Temperature range to 650°C
- Lowest thermal conductivity of any flexible insulation
- Thin, flexible blanket format — easy to cut and install
- Hydrophobic — repels water and moisture
- Reduces CUI (corrosion under insulation) risk
- Excellent vibration and thermal shock resistance
Applications
- High-value process equipment
- Confined spaces where thickness is critical
- Subsea and marine installations
- Personnel protection systems
- Petrochemical and industrial process pipework
COLD & CRYOGENIC SERVICE · DOWN TO -273°C
Cryogel
Cryogel is an advanced aerogel blanket engineered specifically for cold and cryogenic service from ambient temperatures down to -273°C. It delivers exceptional thermal performance with built-in vapour barrier properties — eliminating the need for a separate vapour barrier membrane in most applications.
The flexible blanket format allows installation on complex pipe geometries, valves and fittings where rigid insulation would require multiple pieces and extensive fabrication. Cryogel is the specified choice for LNG facilities, air separation plants and cryogenic distribution systems.
Key features
- Cryogenic service to -273°C
- Built-in vapour barrier — no separate membrane required
- Flexible blanket — installs on complex geometries
- Hydrophobic with superior moisture resistance
- Outstanding thermal performance at low temperatures
- Reduces installation time and labour cost
Applications
- LNG and gas processing facilities
- Cryogenic piping and vessels
- Cold storage and controlled-temperature environments
- Air separation plants
- Pharmaceutical cold chain
