PIC / Polyurethane - Rigid foams

Polyurethane / PIC (poly-isocyanurate)

A Leading Manufacturer of Polyurethane Foams, Chemicals & Thermal Insulation

Aerothane Applications is a leading manufacturer of Rigid polyurethane foam (PIC / PIR), which is a closed-cell plastic.

The advantages of insulating with PU / PIC insulation is:

– Excellent thermal resistance

– Fast and easy installation

– Very low percentage of disposal or wasted materials

– Very suitable pricing

Polyurethane (PUR) and Polyisocyanurate (PIR) are organic compounds which are used to manufacture rigid foam insulation used in residential, industrial and commercial applications.

The closed cellular matrix of polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board makes it resistant to moisture and water infiltration, therefore ensuring its ability to maintain high thermal and structural performance over time. Also, the closed cell structure accounts for the excellent compressive strength of PIR insulation board which makes it an ideal support structure to prevent sagging in the long run.

These compounds are made by reacting a Polyol with a Di/Poly-Isocyanate to create polymers which form building blocks of the insulation material.

Both PUR and PIR have good mechanical and fire resistant properties which makes it suitable for insulation purposes.

The operating temperature for these materials are as follows:

  • PUR: -210 to 120 Degrees Celsius*
  • PIR:  -180 to 150 Degrees Celsius*

These materials are molded into a block and then cut into sheets or pipe sections by a CNC machine.

The density of these materials range between 32 kg/cubic metre and 80 kg/cubic metre.

Both materials are used heavily in the construction, cold storage and truck body industries.

Applications Of Polyurethane Foam

Pipe Sections

Aerothane Applications manufactures and custom cuts Polyurethane and Polyisocyanurate (PIC / PIR) pipe sections to your specific needs. At our premises in Cape Town, we have 5 CNC machines, this allows us to be able to cut to any inside diameter and any thickness.

Our sizes range from 13mm ID to big vessels and tanks measuring well over 6 meters in diameter. We offer single, double and triple layer systems.

We also have the expertise to advise you on the correct thicknesses, depending on the various factors and results that you would like to achieve.

Insulation Boards

Polurethane

Thanks to their excellent mechanical strength, insulation boards made of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR / PIR) are highly resistant; they can be combined with other materials and are easy to install on the building site.

Metal Faced Sandwich Panels

polyurethane

Sandwich panels have a rigid polyurethane foam (PUR / PIR) core with profiled and in most cases, metal facings on both the upper and lower surfaces. Sandwich panels are particularly suited for roofing and wall applications, for the various support structures in halls and industrial buildings, as well as for refrigeration and cold-storage units. The lightweight panels are easy to process and can be installed in all weather conditions. PUR / PIR sandwich panels are, to a high degree, pre-fabricated, giving them structural and constructional design properties that offer a high level of security, both in the processing stages and in the finished building.

Blocks

Polyurethane (PUR / PIR) block foam can be cut to shape for the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations, as well as the molding of sculptures or airplane wings which has been done extensively in the past. Many students come to us for material in the making of special parts, to be molded at a later stage.

Sheets

polyurethane

Sheets are manufactured either for flooring, but mainly the refrigerated truck industry. Aerothane has contracts with most of the Truck Body manufacturers, and cuts various thickness sheets as well as various density’s to suit the customers requirements.
